Today, Nicki Minaj releases her fourth studio album Queen laced in 19 tracks amid features from Lil Wayne, The Weeknd and Foxy Brown, to name a few. Overall, technically speaking it is a solid body of work but not an impressive one in my opinion. During my podcast I discuss some of my favorite tracks, why I think The Pinkprint was really her Queen album and what I feel like the album lacks to name a few.
It is not a terrible album, by far, but for me it dearths substance, lacks lyrical depth but not lyrical wittiness and song composition wise I am not absolutely loving it. It's not an album of empowerment or narrative dripping musical tales. Nicki Minaj is an ikon, no doubt about it, but this album just doesn't showcase her years put it. Most people will probably love this album, shout out to them, but this is my blunt, first listen, reaction; indulge below.
