That nostalgic 90’s hip-hop with a pleasant dash of individuality and a knack for story-telling begins to describe Ezri. Last featured for his L.A. Leakers “Middle Child” freestyle he returns with an original and emotive record entitled “Matter Over Mind.” The video is dedicated to his cousin Tito who was murdered a few years ago. Ezri states, “We used a lot of old footage so when I watch this it feels like he’s still here with us.” The Liam Walsh and Dell directed visual cascades through Ezri’s past and present. Lyrically he reveals his pain, triumphs, struggles, authenticity and the awareness of his rising position in one of the most ruthless industry’s in the world.

From local Cleveland rapper to Nas co-signed rising star he’s proving exactly why he deserves to be discussed in topics of rising hip-hop eminence. Two of the greatest attributes an artist can possess are vulnerability and transparency. Ezri lets listeners in, he lets us peek around in his past, view his celeb meet-ups, marvel in his humility and wallow around in three minutes of straight bars.

A true musician is a great story-teller, a sonic novelist really.

Indulge in his latest narrative below.

Ikonic lyrics:

Came home out of prison / Ain’t no optimism, in him /Just a lot of magazines and a lot of issues

My n****s blowing through that paper like a box of tissues

And when you winning and them women wanna stop and frisk you

They tried to cuff me recently that s*** just not as simple

Knew I was popping ‘fore I popped a pimple

I’m backstage, Barclay’s at the Jigga show without credentials
